Sword of Regret
by HA Fowler
Freya's Bower

Review by Ellie McBride

Sword of Regret includes two brief but surprisingly satisfying love stories centering around a mystical sword that reveals truths to those who touch it. In the first short a vampire hunter must face the truth of his actions; in the second it is the vampire who struggles to accept her past.

Both stories are unusually tight, controlled, and cohesive, a definite problem for the form. Fowler manages to create complete characters and engaging stories in very little space, and even delivers the goods with hot love scenes that somehow work in an abrupt time frame. Vampires seem to lend themselves to this quite well, being creatures of visceral response.

Sword of Regret, part of Freya's Bower's BITES line, is an amazing accomplishment in surgical, focused, well controlled writing. Both short stories work together, but more importantly, they succeed as individual tales without leaving readers befuddled or dissatisfied.

Wonderfully done by Ms. Fowler, this pairing has Romance News hungry for more vampy bites from this author.
